New Batteries
Good evening all. I just installed new batteries and was wondering what the proper protocol is for the charging cycles. I have read the information about the cycling and discharge to 75% and charging full again. However, I have not discharged them to 75% and was wondering if it's okay to put them back on the charger?
Current charger being used is DPI from Scottyb. |

Re: New Batteries
I would say just keep it on the charger, you won't hurt anything

Re: New Batteries
Scottyb has a battery break in guide on his website. I've glanced at it, but plan on digging in before I get my new ones.

Re: New Batteries
Rule #1- Never let a battery pack sit unplugged over night.
Rule #2- Exercise new batteries down the 75% for the first 20 charging cycles for best plate break-in. Rule #3- If one can not follow Rule #1 AND Rule #2, follow Rule #1. Yes, the 75% thing is "best practice" and worth the effort, but don't be a fanatic about it. . |

Discharging to 75% is suggested limit rather than a goal. In other words, take the trips you normally take, but try to avoid discharging below 75% for the first two dozen or so charge cycles. Also try to avoid full throttle accelerations from a standstill and similar acts that draw max amps. On the other hand, if you only make short trips with the cart and don't typically discharge the batteries below about 90% SoC or so, take a few longer trips during the break-in period. Basically, the batteries need to be exercised, but not too excessively or too strenuously. |

Re: New Batteries
Thanks again! Just wasn't sure how temperamental they are or if wide range variation from short rides (minimal discharge) to recommended discharge would impact the life of the battery.
Go to go! back on the charger as of this morning |
