Default Battery wiring

Happy Friday everyone!

I have a 1989 ezgo and was wondering about battery wiring. I was planning on making my own cables but was wondering how many feet I should purchase. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

I did it on a 91ezgo marathon it took about 30ft of wire and 25 to 30 terminals to do everything, try to find some NoOx Special terminal grease for the connections.

No affiliation but Missouri Wind and Solar on Ebay has the best price I could find on terminal ends

I apologize if this sounds like a stupid question - was that 30 feed total (red and black wires) or 30 feet for red / 30 feet for black. Also, aside from the colored wires which I assume is to designate positive/negative do I need two colors?

For my cabling project, I bought 25 feet (hopefully enough) of black cable, and then a few feet each of red and black adhesive backed shrink wrap. That way I know I wont run short of any one color cable, and the shrink wrap used to protect the crimped ends designates +/-.

Color doesn't matter
But I used red for B+ thru the solenoid & for 2 F/R Sw cables

This is what I did for colors. Colored high temperature tape would work as well.

Oh-oh...you bought all black? That will cause your positive electrons to run in the wrong direction. It is sorta like trying to use nails with the heads on the left end on the right side of a house. The only suggestion I have is to clean them well with lots of prop wash and then, at least 2 coats of plaid paint.

And a happy Friday right back at ya!

As far as feet needed, if the old cables are not available to measure, I'd simply measure the connection distances, add 'em up and multiply by 1.5 (or 2 if you are the particularly nervous type, but...) and get that much cable (of whatever color you wish). I'd also suggest cutting as you go (lugs ADD length, wraps DECREASE it) rather than cutting it all at once and getting at least a few extra lugs. Lastly, you might check around at welding supply places for roll ends, miscuts, damaged sections, etc. - not many folks want 6-8 foot welding cables, but since you're cutting it up into 12"-24" inch lengths... And you might get a deal on the lugs there as well.

Good guys wear black. Once they go black, electrons never go back.

You might notice that I silver plated my copper ends.

I had a 1970 Plymouth Duster that had right-handed lugs on the right-hand tires, and left-handed lugs on the left side. Wrung off two studs before I figured that out, in the pouring rain.
