1991 electric Ezgo Marathon starts to lose power 5 minutes into the ride?
My 1991 Ezgo Marathon 36v will start out the ride fine but then a few minutes into the ride the state of charge meter will show a loss of power and you can also tell that the speed has slowed and continues to get slower. I started out on the ride with the cart fully charged. I checked the batteries when I was finally able to get back home (moving extremely slow) and they were still over 6 volts per battery and over 36 volts on the final output? Meter also showed almost full charge.

Forget your cart meter check with a DVM. Check pack and very battery to see what they are reading report back. A fully charged pack should read 38.2 volts.

Use a dvm to get an accurate reading of your total pack voltage, along with a reading from each individual battery. The attached chart is curtesy of johnnieb. Compare the numbers you get from your batteries to what you see in the chart. Note that 36.3v is 50% and the Cart won't function well at that soc. (State of charge)

We need a reading of each battery not an average. Go for another ride as batteries start slowing down get your reading.

Who told you that a golf cart wouldn't work well at 50%? Most all carts will work fine to charges well below 20% (RXV shuts down at 20%), and the batteries will too. But, It's not doing the batteries any favors for long lifespan. I think these batteries are beyond "preserving longest life" anyway.

After the 5 minute ride, feel all of the large cables - all of the battery and motor cables. Any difference in temperature? Also, is yours a resistor cart? If so, what do the coils look like?
