Ausco brakes
I have what is probably a dumb question...
I think I need some new shoes for my standard brakes, so thought I would look at the Ausco brakes as perhaps doing those... The instructions indicate you need 10 inch wheels for Ausco brakes... I have madjax 12 inch wheels with 20 inch tires. Is the 10 inch a minimum requirement for these brakes? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Ausco brakes
Yes 10" is smallest rim size that can be used with the Ausco disk brakes, this is to allow room for the caliper.

@skipsmith -Install was pretty easy and so far I'm happy with mine that I installed a couple of weeks ago. They grip so much better than the drums and you also get new heavy duty hubs. ScottyB has the best price for them. |

Re: Ausco brakes
What are the maintenance items on the Ausco brakes? Are there brake pads that would need to be changed out ever so often?

Re: Ausco brakes
Yes pads, just like shoes for drums, need replacing every so often. The frequency of which depends upon so many factors we can only speculate on what to expect. I do know that if you run in muddy gritty ground the pads will wear a lot more than usual and Ausco does offer severe duty pads and rotors but the cost is like buying a couple of pad sets up front - so not many go that route.

Re: Ausco brakes
I don't have anything to compare my cart to since I purchased it used, but it seems like it takes more distance to stop the cart now than before.
So I am either looking at new brake shoes or maybe doing the Ausco brakes. Thx for the information. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Ausco brakes
I prefer the feel I get from the disc brakes. Less foot pressure and more stopping power than drum brakes. I have had carts with 4 wheel wet brake systems that would throw the driver into the wheel and passenger over the hood but that's not the carting experience I'm looking for
Plus you get the heavy duty hubs (a $118 value) with the $269 kit. |

Re: Ausco brakes
What do you do if you have a brake light. I understand the switch is in the actual brake foot pedal but I feel like with the current setup/drums the distance of pedal engagement is pretty far before the switch activates. I feel like with the disc brakes it would take anywhere near as much pedal distance to start braking but the switch wouldn't be activating?

Re: Ausco brakes
I guess you would have to make adjustments. If you're mechanic enough for a brake job - you could probably look at a little trigger switch and see what is needed to make it work with more of less pedal travel
