Default Performance Mods order

I did some searching but could not find exactly what I was looking for. Money being tight, what order would you do performance mods. Assume that I will be doing each mod as money allows. Also assume brand new batteries are in the cart. Here is what I am thinking but please correct me as I am learning a lot about electric carts since I am coming from gas powered Yamahas.

1. 2awg or 4awg cables
2. HD F/R switch or Reversing contactors- Most likely will go with the Reversing contactors since I installed this on one of my carts already and love it.
3. New torque or speed motor (compatible with 36v or 48v)- depends on direction that you want to go
4. New Controller and solenoid- 400 amp or 500 amp?

What do you think? Please feel free to correct me. I would love to do it all at once but I know that my wife would reap me over the coals. I can do a little at a time and find ways to order a part here and there.

Use the new Alltrax SR48500 control, 400 MZJ solenoid, 2g cable set, and the SW202 rev. contactor on 48v for the best performance with any aftermarket motor.

The sum of these parts make a high amp delivery system. That system allows the maximum flow of amperage to the motor much like a freeway system allows traffic to flow into the city. If there is a constriction in the roadway the flow stops and in the case of amperage this results in resistance heat which causes big problems - so... Much of this has to be installed at the same time. I did have a customer who collected all the parts over time and then put them all in at one time. I hope this helps

SWAP 3 and 4.....do the motor last....OR as scotty suggested (the part in red below) what one of his customers did.....collect (buy) the parts as you can, then do the installs all at one time.

If I was doing it one step at a time, I'd change the order a bit further than Sir Nuke suggests.

A. 1. 2awg or 4awg cables Go with 2Ga. There are no perfect conductors, so all cables have power loss and 2Ga have 60% less power loss than 4Ga cables. Also, if there is a possibility of going to 6 X 8V 48V pack, I'd order a cable set for 8V batteries and use them on the 36V pack until it was time to replace the batteries. (8V batteries have both terminal on same side, so longer interconnecting cables are needed)

B. 4. New Controller and solenoid- 400 amp or 500 amp? Ampacity depends on tire height and cart usage. A 500A controller's output can be turned down to 400A if need be, but you cannot turn a 400A controller up to 500A.

C. 2. HD F/R switch or Reversing contactors- Most likely will go with the Reversing contactors since I installed this on one of my carts already and love it. The existing F/R probably won't last very long after the cables are upgraded to 2Ga and a 500A controller is installed, so this can be justified as a "Repair" rather than an upgrade.

D. 3. New torque or speed motor (compatible with 36v or 48v)- depends on direction that you want to go Use the stock motor as a yardstick to determine if a High-Speed/Low Torque, or a Standard-Speed/Standard-Torque or a Low-Speed High-Torque motor is needed to yield desired performance. Also, there are motors out there that have roughly the same speed as a stock motor AND have more torque than stock.

I'd use the stuff suggested by Scotty.

The reasons I suggest waiting vs bit by bit install:

Cables first
1. 2 g cables do not fit under the OEM environmental cover
2. Cable cut lengths are different for SR controls due to their unique configuration vs OEM Curtis or AXE type controls
3. The SW202 rev. contactor requires 3/8ths terminals. These are big for OEM F&R terminals resulting in reduced contact

SR48500/400 solenoid 2nd
This will allow the motor full access to the battery pack. All the increased amperage flows through the F&R. I don't see the OEM F&R handling this well. without the next step - that's why it really is best to do this type of upgrade all at once

I stand corrected.

Thanks.... i may just buy it piece by piece and wait and install all at once. It may just be left as a 36v for awhile though. Hence the reason I was looming at stuff that could potentially work with both 36 and 48

All of the Alltrax controls and the MZJ are 36 and 48v compatible.
The SW202 has activation coils which are 36 or 48 v. The 36v model Can be wired to run in the 48v system but the 48v model cannot be wired to run in the 36v system. I hope this helps

JB, hardly... Consider yourself cc-ed not corrected
