Default Can a bad/weak battery cause terminals to get hot?

I know dirty or loose connections can cause battery terminals to get hot. I've cleaned and cleaned and they are shiny and clean and the connection is tight, but the terminal is still getting hot. it is only on one battery terminal (positive terminal on #1 battery).

I know the battery is older and not 100%. The terminal itself looks to be OK ,not melted. Yesterday after cleaning I touched it and it burnt my finger.

Can a weak/bad battery cause this?

If not, my next step is to either move that cable to another connection to see if it follows the cable, or just replacing the cable all together.

these are 2 gauge cables.

No. Only bad connection to the terminal will make it get hot. However, that can also make the battery appear weak.

Volt, could he also have a bad post? I got a bit aggressive with the wrench once, and was told I probably damaged the terminal inside. I was having a similar issue.

Giving it more thought, if hes had this issue for a bit, and it was damaged inside, I guess the post would probably be melted?

I think you're on the right track. You need to switch/replace cable. It may be corroded inside the connector causing increased resistance.

Yes - possible to have a damaged post - still a bad connection.

Is it normal for main battery positive wire going to solenoid to be warm after about a 10-12 mile ride

Warm is normal, especially if you are still running stock cables. They were engineered to be "just good enough, without spending any extra money". Hot is indicative of a problem.

Well I noticed the battery in question was low on water. I filled it and it no longer runs hot. Weird.

Thanks for everyone's help. It seems like keeping an rxv running takes a village sometimes.
