Default Welding the frame. Anything special to note?

Ok guys.....I'm in the process of installing a long travel front suspension on my 2000 TXT. So, after my nephew removed the cowl and "stuff" on Sunday, we brushed away some of the years of mud and found this obvious frame crack (OH....THE HORROR.....THE HORROR!!):

So, my question is other than disconnection the battery pack plus and minus terminals, is there anything else I should disconnect prior to the welding? Controller wires? Motor wires? I don't want to do needless work, but I don't want to be stupid and fry expensive "stuff" over taking ten minutes with a wrench.

BTW......Yes, I realize that by the amount of rust on that crack, it's been there for at least a good two years. Possibly more. OTOH, that says something about the rest of the structure of the cart "holding" it together when a main part of the frame like that cracks. Then again, I use this for hunting and for the most part, I'm going maybe 5mph, and in the dirt.

FWIW

Nope - clean it up and a gusset or overlay don't hurt.

+1 Just don't weld the crack. Put some metal inside it like a piece of angle iron if you can.

Thanks gent's!! My nephew actually knows his "stuff" when it comes to welding as I do recall that he got all top grades in his welding class's. I also purchased him a welder for his graduation gift. (Knowing that I would use his services in the future!! And they thought I was just being a nice guy!!) My Nephew ask for the inside and outside measurements and said he will do as you fellows stated. Just weld a piece inside and outside.....I'll paint the Rust paint on when it cool's, and onward and upward!!!

The repair looks well done. Did you temper the frame again prior to painting it?

I don't know Bob. I didn't ask. I do know the "paint" he put on it is an epoxy rust neutralizing product....industrial "stuff". It won't rust again. He also put this epoxy on the other side of the frame. (Drivers side). That's all I know.

Well it looks like he did an excellent job of reinforcing the break, so even without tempering it should hold up well.
