Default Stripped nut on springs

I've got a 86 marathon that I'm trying to remove the nut on top in the middle of the leaf springs. I did a dumb and stripped the hell out of the nut!!! Now the nut and bolt just spin. I can't get to bottom of the bolt. Any suggestions on how to get this thing off?

Hacksaw across the center of the bolt deep enough for a big screwdriver to hold bolt while wrenching and pray.

The nut is flush with bolt so I'd be cutting into both...?!

Yep. And the blade of screwdriver can't be wider than the bolt.

That nut is likely welded to bolt, it was originally not intended to come back apart (unless for some reason you needed to separate individual spring leaves). You should not need to remove that bolt to remove springs from axle.

I like this answer. I'll take a look tomorrow. I guess I just saw a nut and went after it![emoji23][emoji15]. Being the axle was under it I thought maybe it was tied into it somehow. I hope you're right!

You didn't say you just wanted the spring loose. The axle must be hanging by the shock.

Yup sorry. I'm just trying to replace the existing with some hd springs so the whole thing is coming out. Hopefully all is good!

Tj-you might want to put Ubolts on one spring set to keep the axle stable-then jack up on the center of the differential and move the jack stands to the frame sides...then let the jack part way down to allow the axle to separate from the spring...
now, replace the springs with new hd spring...jack up the axle and put on U bolts- and do other side the same way and you are done!!!

If you just want to remove the stripped nut (you know.....the one that you butchered to death!! ) then go to your hardware store and buy a "Nut Splitter." Just like this one: http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...9-ed192a1dacef These little inexpensive devices will come in handy the rest of your life and work like a charm. They will split the nut in under 60 seconds and not harm the bolt. How do I know? Well......I just do. It will take you longer to pay for the tool and get it out of the package than to actually split the nut off your axle. Good Luck!!
