Towing with the windshield on
I need to trailer my cart about 50 miles tomorrow. There are marks on the cowl where the windshield has rubbed before I am assuming during towing.
I remember a post from a long time ago and I think someone suggested putting a large car wash sponge in between the windshield and cowl if towing with the windshield attached. Does that sound right or any better options? Typically I would just take it off but the bottom brackets will NOT unsnap from the roof frame. I tried to force one side and cracked it and it still does not move. I'm starting to wonder if someone glued it used double sided tape on those brackets. Anyways, sponge, rolled up towel, neighbors cat? What's my best option? |

My vote is the cat
Come back and let us know what you did and how it worked out. I need to trailer mine 650 miles this summer. |

Re: Towing with the windshield on
I tow mine to the lake every summer about 90 miles. The dealer recommended against taking it off. He said I had a greater chance of damaging it taking it off than when towing. I tow my cart backwards. I just fold my windshield down and put two bungees in an "X" pattern. Just make sure the bungee ends don't contact the plastic. I have never used anything else. I guess it depends on the brand. Mine never rubs. I would think anything non abrasive would work for protection. The swim noodle sounds like a good idea. Get the type of noodle with the hole in the center. They are easier to slice half way through. People at the lake use this to wrap around the houseboat roof posts to keep the vinyl enclosures from rubbing in the wind.

Re: Towing with the windshield on
For the rubbing issue, I have a piece of split pipe insulation, which is basically a pool noodle with the side already sliced. I had a piece of scrap laying around after a project, so I threw it on. Helped quiet the windshield squeaking a bit, which is why I used it.

Re: Towing with the windshield on
When we trailer the cart to the beach for beach access, we place the windscreen fully up, with the rubber clamps on. Works fine, course we are pulling front first. Lost a windscreen once by leaving it down and clipped. Luckily when it flew off, it did not hit the car in back of us.... lesson learned!!

Re: Towing with the windshield on
When considering "to remove, or not remove", I learned hauling mine in a pickup, and about half way there I decided that the windshield was acting as a large sail. I removed it & fuel mileage improved. The little V6 wasn't fighting as hard to do freeway speeds either.

Towing with the windshield on
A word of warning. I towed my EZGO TXT several times with no isssue. When I was bringing it to the house to rebuild a couple of months ago, a 12 mile trip at a max of 50 miles an hour, the roof developed lift and ripped itself completely off the brackets, tearing holes in the roof and leaving the bolts, spacers, and pieces of the roof still attached to the brackets.
You may want to consider a ratchet strap around the roof and golf cart body as an extra precaution. |

Re: Towing with the windshield on
Pool noodle sounded like a great idea and was a great fit....until I got it about 3/4 on and flexed the windshield enough to get the noodle under it. I needed a new windshield anyways
