99 ez go with motor issues
ok im usually pretty good with electrical issues but this cart is killing me!!! i have a 99 ezgo txt 36volt that i have put 6 new batteries in, new 4gauge cables on. new fwd/rev controller on, and new solenoid. i just got the cart from a friend and it burned up the fwd/rev controller on it.(melted the terminals) i put it all together and it does have a lift kit on it but it tops out at around 13mph but going up a slight hill it drops to around 2mph. what is the deal??? ive checked and rechecked the wiring to make sure it is all right and it is im sure. but what could be the cause?? ive even bypassed the motor controller and hooked it up directly to the motor from the batteries and it is the same speed. im thinking the motor is bad but its not getting hot and no noise coming from the motor at all. any advise would be great!!! other wise im thinking to upgrade the motor, and controller and going to 48volts. if i do that what are good components to do this??? PLEASE HELP!!! if i do upgrades i don't want to spend over $1200 or less if possible and what do i buy???

test each battery UNDER LOAD...what is the packs volts under rest and under load? are any of the batt cables getting warm? f/r switches are not equal...is it a QUALITY f/r switch? some of the chinese switches can fail even when new...

Re: 99 ez go with motor issues
the fwd/rev controller and solenoid are from ez-go direct. at my work we have an account with them and so i bought them through that. the only cable getting a little worm is the main + wire from the battery to the motor controller itself. but not much. and none to the motor itself either. that's why i think it is the motor going bad! not sure right now on the voltage but when i did test it they all looked good under a load.. i put the cart against a 4 wheeler and at wide open on the cart to the solenoid it was something like 37-38 volts. it just has no power at all!!!!!!! i just put picture on my bio of the cart as i was building it. if i do upgrade everything what is the best brand to use. i don't want to buy something that im not going to be happy with. so im looking for someone that has bought a motor and controller that is really happy with their setup to point me in the right direction.. this cart was bought to use at Disney when we go camping there and to run around our land. not going to do much other than that. our land does have some hills but not going to be going 4 wheeling with it!!! i have 4 wheeler for that...

Re: 99 ez go with motor issues
I took a peek at a picture of the cart mecman203 posted in his album.
Looks to have at least 22" tall tires that are probably about a foot wide with a tractor lug tread pattern, so they are likely to be low pressure tires. Theoretically, 22" diameter tires will up the top speed of an otherwise stock 36V series cart to about 17 MPH, but the 18% torque loss due to the change in the final drive ratio will only allow it to reach about 15-16 MPH. Toss in the addition torque required to turn wide, low pressure tires and I'm not surprised the cart won't reach the ~14 MPH of a stock 36V series cart and slows to a crawl on hills. It will probably take a 48V battery pack and a 500A controller to get that cart with those tires to do 17 MPH on a hard level surface and only slow to walking speed on hills. With 22" road tires and 48V, it will do about 22 MPH. Add the right aftermarket motor, it'll do 25 mph or more. |
