Default 36 to 48v conversion

I am likely going to do a 36 to 48 conversion for my 94 medalist. I called FSIP and the lady didnt seem to know much. The stock controller is a curtis 25864G09. She said I cant upgrade this to 48v and higher amp, that I would need their in house controller called a star controller.

I have searched on here and eevryone recommends going with an alltrax controller; whats the difference between going with that and a curtis controller with part number 1205M-5603 other then being able to change the settings on the fly?

It looks like both of these have a different harness hook up. Are there conversion harnesses or do I need to cut off the 6 pin and splice on new ends?

Look up the Curtis installation instructions on Google, if you have the factory control in it now it hooks up the exact same way.

I have the 500 amp 1205m-5603 and it works grear at 48v with my stock 36v motor

I have a 1991 marathon EZGO

The experts will pitch in but when going from 36 to 48 you need to change the solenoid, resistor and diode setup to match the 46v coming from the battery pack.

The stock solenoid will not cut it for the new volts and amps.

If you are bumping the amps of the stock controller you will need to change the cables to something better than the stock 6 ga

We used to sell star (now GE) controls but for the price I suggest you look at 10 reasons to choose Alltrax 36-48 volt SR controls > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/about-...ntrollers.html

Questions?

Yes I was planning on the new solenoid package through Scotty. The cables I'm already going to change to 4 gauge. I'm in the process of lowering the cart

Alltrax recommends 2g with 500 amp controls but, I think 4g is okay for street use where the draw is not as much PLUS 48v will use less amps than 36 did for the same task.
