1999 Ezgo TXT brake help
Hello- I have a lifted 99 txt. The brakes haven't been working good so I took the rear wheels off, and checked the shoes and pads, they are almost new. So then I played with the adjustment under the cart. When I tightened it, the brakes worked great, but it was too tight to get the parking brake engaged.
I don't know much about these brake systems, but I'm guessing it means the cables are stretched and needs to be replaced? When I loosen the adjustment it is easier to get the Parking brake on, but then the brakes become weak again. Thank you for the help in advance. |

You may need to make a shoe adjustment so they are closer to the drum, or you may need new shoes.

Re: 1999 Ezgo TXT brake help
I thought so too, but they are barely dragging like they should when the brake is released, and the shoes look brand new. (I just bought this cart)
That's why I'm thinking cables? The ends of the cables look rusted st best, so I'm thinking they could be overly stretched and the return Springs worn? |

Re: 1999 Ezgo TXT brake help
Cable adjustment is not how you adjust brakes. Best advice I can give is undo what has been done and start again. Make shoe the shoes and self adjusters work, then take up slack in the cable last. 100 percent of the ezgos I go to the brakes are mis-adjusted. A 5 year old should be able to stop the car.
Scuffing the drums at this point I would highly suggest. |

Thanks for the advice. How do I check the self adjusters? I saw them, they seem tight.

Re: 1999 Ezgo TXT brake help
PLEASE, go to the stickies and download the manuals for your cart. There is a whole chapter on the braking SYSTEM. Playing randomly with parts and pieces is not the way to deal with a system.
My 1998 can lock up the stock brakes with 4 people going downhill at 35+ mph. |
