36v to 48v conversion today, not what I expected
I converted to a 48v system today from 36v in my 98 TXT, added two Powertron P2000 batteries to my existing set of Powertrons..the original batteries are only about a month-ish old. I have the Alltrax XCT 400DCS with the SW180 solenoid originally bought for the 36v.. 2awg cables all the way around...is there a difference between the 36v and 48v solenoids because I expected the results to be a bit better? Or do I need to change the programming on the Alltrax since the conversion. I read alot of posts on here and it looks like I shouldnt have to adjust much if anything but maybe the amps. I just want to make sure I am getting the best performance I can get right now. I have 215/40/12 tires with no lift but I do have HD leaf springs that give it an ever so slight lift. I used an speedometer app on my iPhone and driving on flat road I get about 24-25 mph and steep hills I get about 17mph which is up from my 11-12 mph I was getting on 36v. I thought I would be able to climb a tree after going to 48v. Are my expectations too high or does this seem par for the coarse?

on hills you want from 12mph up to 17mph.....you got nearly a 50% increase in you uphill speed.....you got way more than what is normal (33% increase).....be happy, REAL happy!

More Batteries IE... more voltage DOES NOT give you more POWER. It allows for you to run your cart LONGER. Think of it as putting a bigger gas tank in your car. The CONTROLLER is what makes POWER, that is your "engine". Check on the programming of the controller, You have a nice controller!

The controller is simply a valve which regulates the flow of battery amperage to the motor. The motor tries to pull 100% of the battery pack amperage each time you ask it to do anything. The controller allows and restricts the flow so we get a controlled response. Hence the name speed controller. The 36v stock series motor will produce more speed and torque when run on higher voltage. This is well documented. The power and speed increase is in nearly direct proportion to the voltage increase. In this case 33% more voltage was applied. Not all motors will respond like this |

Your tires are 18.8" tall, which is only slightly taller than stock, so on level ground your DCS cart ought to have run in the low 20's at 36V and about 33% faster when you went to 48V. In other words, if it went 20MPH at 36V, it ought to be going upwards of 26.7 MPH at 48V and if it went 23MPH at 36V, it ought to be going upwards of 30.7MPH at 48V.
Your speed gain going uphill is as expected or better, but the top speed is lower than expected, so some investigation is called for. Screen saves from Toolkit showing the controller settings would help, as would a couple of data logs showing cart at max speed and climbing a hill. Also, what field map is loaded? In addition, what is your battery pack voltage after a full charge and 12 hours at-rest? |
