97 TXT Charge meter only alternating first two bars?

Hey all,

Newbie here. Just bought my first cart this weekend. I've started acclimating myself to it and have already fixed a few items. Not being familiar with these gizmos yet I'm confused about one item so far. The Charge meter which is stock Curtis horizontal universal unit only lights up the first two bars even after charging over night. the first two bars light up alternately almost like they're just flashing back and forth. Any clue if the meter needs replacement or should I look at other items since it is actually lighting up. I was thinking poor connection?

Where do you all suggest for best parts source? I was looking at Scotty B's site but did not see this item or stock brake pads. Please straighten me out if I'm wrong.

try putting cart in tow mode , then disconnect the main negative battery cable for a few minutes ... this may reset the meter

I was looking for a like stock VM so I didn't have to cut up the dash arrangement.

Thanks for the brake info too. They have the dust cap which the other site that I was looking at din't better prices too.
