Filling the rear axle
My rear axle leaks some. Possibly from the seal around the motor shaft. I have not loked at it close enough to see. I'm sure it is a very slow leak. The oil that has leaked has attracted dirt and such on the axle. I'll maybe just live with it for now as long as it does not get worse. It does not cause any oil to drop on my driveway. So I need to check the oil and fill it up some. My idea is to take the cover off and drill a hole in the aluminum housing to use as a fill hole. Tap it and install a tapered plug. From what I have seen you are supposed to somehow fill the rear end thru that hole on the underside. I think that will be a royal pain the you know what. If I drill this hole I would leave the plug out on the bottom and use it to judge when the fill height is achieved. Any one else done this?

Re: Filling the rear axle
I would NOT suggest your planned idea! It is very common to see the oil / dirt buildup on an electric cart rear end - ESPECIALLY if it came from a course / lease that did not have a solid maintenance / cleaning schedule. Before you start any "modifying", take it to the car wash for a decent bath, check the oil level at the factory fill / drain plug and then observe for leaks...

Re: Filling the rear axle
I've done many things like this in my life. I see nothing wrong with doing this. It leaks (at most) a quarter ounce a year from what I can see. Just enough to get the gear housing and axle housing moist enough to collect some dirt and dust. I can live with that small amount of seepage. If it leaked more I would look into fixing the leak. For now it is what I would call minuscule and not worth fixing. I just want an easy way to fill the rear housing instead of trying to squirt oil up into a hole.

Re: Filling the rear axle
You're trying to re-invent the wheel.. These axles are not that difficult to add oil to.. They use regular 30wt engine oil, I use a large pump oil can to top em off.. Remove the plug, insert the nozzle of the oil can, pump til it runs back out the hole.. Reinsert the plug, done... It's not that difficult!!
