Default 1984 EZGO 3 wheel project

I wanted to try an electric cart and thought these 3 wheelers were cool so i just picked up an 84 ezgo. No batteries and no charger which is fine as i plan on going 48 volts. Paid $160. I want to change everything over to solid state controls. Wondering what suggestions for the motor would be? Thinking i will probably only go up to a 20 inch tire. Would like to shoot for 25 mph. Decent torque. thanks

How do 3 wheelers drive/handle, relative to 4 wheelers? I drove a 3 wheel bicycle at work decades ago, and nearly flipped it, as I'm used to leaning into a curve. However, you don't do any leaning on 4 wheelers, so ???

Just curious.

My three wheel harley has decent speed and i was never concerned about tipping over. great turning radius also.

I have an 1989 ezgo 3 wheeler that is being almost completely restored. Haven't taken the plunge into sold state or motor replacement yet. The three wheelers move at a good clip but seem to lose speed on hills. I was hoping to get a motor that would address that. I could see the three having issues around corners/turns do to setup.

They're a little different than a 4 wheel. Not in the sense that you feel like it's going to flip, but the way it steers and handles is just "different" since you have that front wheel directly in the middle, makes turning radius a lot better and you can for instance drive down a narrow, winding sidewalk or something and make the sharp turns without a tire getting on the grass because you can "pull up further" before going into the turn. Kind of weird having the body of the golf cart hanging out over the grass when you turn but the tire will be on the pavement if you judge it correctly (makes you feel like you're driving on the grass but the wheel is on the sidewalk during the turn). A 4 wheeler would be all on the grass. Don't know if you can understand what I'm talking about lol, but you'd just have to drive one to see! There are a lot more places you can go with it than a 4 wheeler. Mine is also really stable and I don't think you could flip it if you tried. I like the way it "leans" while going up the ever-so-slight curb going up to my driveway from the street.

I was just curious. Only disadvantage I can see is if you were to ramp it into a pickup truck, you couldn't use two ramps - one for each set of wheels. Trailering would be no problem, as you have full width ramp.

Like I said, the only 3 wheeler I drove was a bicycle, and I was used to leaning into a high speed curve. Just different.

I ramp mine into my pickup bed regularly. Just have to use 3 ramps
