Default Battery Problems

I have been lurking here for a few weeks now, and have gained a lot of information so far. It seems that there is a lot more information out there that this feeble little brain could soak up.
I am posting this for a friend who has what I believe to be a EZ GO Marathon( I have no idea what the year model might be) who is having some battery issues that I was hoping someone might could give me a clue as to where to start looking for the problem. He bought new Trojan T-105 batteries last summer, and as of a few weeks ago it seems that his charger will not charge the batteries. We checked the voltage levels in all six of the batteries ( varied from 1.2 - 5.1 volts), so that told me why the auto charger would not kick on.
But here is the part where I am confused. When we hooked up an automotive charger ( set on 12 volts) to two of the batteries , the charger clamps ( things on end of the charger cord) would throw a pretty good spark, and after about 4 -5 seconds, the automotive charger would kick off. when we hook the automotive charger (set on 6 volts) to one battery , it would work fine.
Has anybody experienced this, and have some ideas of where for me to start?

I have seen chargers kick on and then kick off then kick on a couple times when the batteries are that low. I think they are designed to sork that way.

Hello godaddy20 and Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the batteries are wired wrong. Make sure each POS terminal goes to a NEG on the next battery in the battery circuit.

If they are not wired wrong, you have a short in one of the batteries.

Battery Pack:

Thanks Rusty. I had already double checked to make sure they were wired correctly. And I think you might be on to something when you mention " one of the batteries might have a short". I will let you know what we find in the next few days.
