Default Ezgo still slow

I bought a 2007 EZGO series 4 passenger cart for camp. I installed a Cart Speed Controller 73060G01 400 amp 1205-117 with 2 gauge wire kit that was new from a friend here at camp. I bought a 400 amp solenoid from Buggies unlimited to complete the kit.

After reading some info on this site, I thought it would make the cart faster, but it wasn't. I knew the batteries were very old and weak so I put the Trojan T105 batteries in. Same thing, not faster.

The motor is 73445G01 AO2-4012 AU2500 FLT SPD

I custom build brushless motors for RC cars, I know that certain winds will be faster have more torque etc. It's the same thing with the Speed Controllers, more amps = more speed and torque.

It should be faster with the items I installed correct?

I still have the small tires on it, bought a lift kit and 12" wheels from another friend at camp that I did not put on yet.

There are 3 decent size hills at my camp, most of it is flat.

The typical top speed for a 2007 series cart in near perfect electrical and mechanical condition with a 36V battery pack and 18" tall tires is about 14 MPH.

Changing to a higher amp throughput controller, installing 2Ga cables and installing a good 36V battery pack will not change the ~14 MPH top speed.

To increase the top speed of a series cart, you have to increase the battery pack voltage, or install taller tires, or install numerically lower gears in the differential, or install a higher-speed motor, or some combination of thereof.

2 series motors were available from ezgo during this era. You need to have a look at your motor, see if it says "flt spd" (14mph) , or "hi spd" (19mph) on the label. Typically a series setup might gain some speed on hills with a controller upgrade, but flat land speed will be the same.

I installed my lift and 12" wheels. The cart has woke up, much better speed and torque up the hills here at camp due to the tire size.

Ran in to a problem, on the 2nd day of use. When we were driving back to camp it started to buck, slowed down, sped up then got real slow almost to a roll then sped up, then stopped. Gave it throttle went about 2 feet and stopped. Solenoid clicks every time, just very little power you can see it want to roll, but doesn't.

Then 5 minutes later it was fine, then the same thing all over again. Then it was fine for the rest of the day. Found this chart for diag

Anyone see anything like this? I'm going to get a volt meter now. Wish I had my Fluke from work to use!

Any chance water was involved? Rain, large puddles, stream crossing. Did you wash the cart? Sometimes water gets in the pedal box with unpredictable results.

no rain, I just got it to happen again, this time it stopped completely and I was able to get it to move 100% power by slowly pushing the pedal down and then up until it moved. I have to go through the flow chart to see what it really is.

If the cart is shutting down after some use for a little while and then running fine only to sut down a little while later and again start up after a cooling off period you have a situation where the cart is going into thermal cut off. This happens when the controller gets hot due to high amperage flow and shuts down to protect itself until it cools and can go again.
You need an Alltrax SR48400 controller. I know a site sponsor who has them listed currently for $442.

it actually happens very intermittent, first time driving to this morning, pulled out of my site and within 20 feet, slowed down to about half speed, then went back to full speed, then to low speed and then stopped with no movement.

I have the Cart Speed Controller 73060G01 400 amp 1205-117 in it right now.

Larger tires put more load on the motor that drives the cart, the controller that powers the motor, the forward/reverse switch, the batteries, and all of the high current wires.

Either go back to your stock tires, or go to www.cartsunlimited.net and start looking at upgrade options that will support the higher current demand of the larger tires. Like ScottyB says, an Alltrax SR48400 should replace your stock controller and handle the higher demand. And so it begins. Welcome to the addiction!
