Default 97 EZ 36v electric help!

Hello all!
New to the forum and actually new to golf carts in general. I bought my grandparents place a couple months ago and with the property came a 1997 EZ GO golf cart with charger. It is a 36V electric and appears to have newer batteries. Couldn't get the batteries to take a charge but when hooked up I would get a faint beep when switched in reverse. After much google'ing I read you may need to charge the batteries individually to get them to a certain voltage before the charger that was made for it will work. I did just that but still wouldn't work. The beeping got louder when in reverse but no movement just a click. So after more reading I thought maybe it was the solenoid. So like a dummy I went and bought what I thought was the correct solenoid for the cart. Looks exactly like the old one and so I hooked it up the same way the last one was. I then discovered the battery charger I used was junk so I got a different one and charged 3 batteries in series and to my suprise the batteries then took a charge with the golf cart charger! Got it all charged up and figured might as well leave the new solenoid in, what could it hurt? Put it in forward and then the cart made a loud clicking noise followed by nothing. Now the cart won't move, make any beeping noise in reverse or the clicking noise when pedal is pushed in. I'm afraid I may have fried the controller or something more serious. Put the old solenoid back in and still nothing. The batteries will still charge with the factory charger as well but the cart does nothing. My guess it was the new solenoid I put in but not certain. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The solenoid I bought was a 36 volt, 4 terminal #70 series. I assumed it was the right one but now second guessing.

jump the big studs on solenoid
