Default 2008 Rxv freedom brake lights

New to me Rxv freedom. Prior owner obviously messed up the turn signal wiring. The turn signals only work up front, not rear. Also, my brake lights don't work. If I'm correct, the freedom carts brake lights worked from factory. I took these pics hoping that all the knowledge here can help. I'm sure it's an easy fix, but I've looked at all the brake light posts and can't figure out which wires work. When I do press the pedal down the relay does click. So I know the red and purple wires are correct that use the controller to turn rear lights on. Any input is appreciated!

While the red/purple wires & solenoid are Ezgo correct, the turn signal head is hacked in from who knows where. Brake light power goes through the signal head. Look around for turn signal head wire diagrams that match the colors you have.

Thanks cg tech.
One question. Not sure what turn signal head means. The turn signal kit? I believe they hacked the factory harness connector(plug to connect an ezgo turn signal kit) to get the red, green, black, brown, grey wires which they connected to. I need to know what those respective colored wires lead to/control. If not, I'm taking it to ezgo for them to deal with. Lol.

Also, if I mess with just the "hacked wires" will I be playing with fire? As in screwing up controller or other major things?

The controller controls the Brake Light relay power, so don't mess with that. But the outputs of the relay that go to the Turn Signal connector are pretty safe to "hack". LOL

The factory brake lights/turn signals are tied to the tail light circuit by a jumper plug that plugs into the turn signal switch socket on carts that come from the factory without the turn signal switch. All RXVs come from the factory with the 2 wires for the Brake Light relay. They are just not used if the factory lights option is not ordered. I will post the factory accessory harness diagram The plug at the lower left is the jumper plug I mentioned that plugs into the turn signal socket.

Bob,

Could I just splice the yellow, white (rear brake lights) with the grey (brake relay "on") into my current "hack job" to get my brake lights working? My front turn signals work. So I'm not too concerned for rear blinkers, but rear brake lights are imperative.

Yes, that would work as long as the wiring for everything else is OK. It's not much harder to set up both. Your turn signal switch should have a brake input wire and two output wires for your rear turn signals. If it does not, you can make your own brake/turn signal combiner with a handful of diodes. You can use 1N4001, 1N4002, 1N4003, 1N4004, 1N4005, 1N4006, ect. The higher the last digit, the more insertion loss the diode has. Insertion loss is voltage drop through the diode in the forward direction. I like to use 1N4001 for the turn signal circuit and 1N4004 for the brake light circuit.

Connect the grey wire to the unbanded end of a diode, then the banded end of that diode to the unbanded end of 2 diodes. Connect the banded end of one diode to the white wire, and the banded end of the other diode to the yellow wire.

Now connect the green wire from the Drivers Side front turn signal to the unbanded end of a diode, and the banded end of that diode to the white wire of the Driver Side rear brake light. And connect the red/white wire from the Passenger Side front turn signal to the unbanded end of another diode, and the banded end of that diode to the yellow wire of the Passenger Side rear brake light. All of these connections are available at the turn signal interface socket.

When you step on the brakes, the brake lights will both light up. When you use the turn signals, the rear turn signals will flash. When brakes are applied, both brake lights will light up, and when turn signals are used the selected brake light will brighten even more as it flashes.

I've built dozens of these things over the years. Simple and easy to use. I suggest you cover everything with heat shrink tubing and tape.

Thanks for the additional info Bob! So appreciative of your time. Last question! Couldn't I just get that 8 pin head (plug where the brake jumper would go)and reattach the wires to make it back to "stock"? Then I could buy an ezgo turn signal kit that would plug into that and be done?

That would be the best, take it back to stock and use the factory turn signal switch.
