99EZGO TXT changed battery cables and won't run now
Hello, I recently replaced my corroded battery cables and changed them to a 4 guage wire. As soon and I was done I jumped in and drove it for about one minute and then it died on me. Now the battery charger clicks on and makes noise but the meter doesn't move. And I'm not even hearing the clicking noise when I press the pedal. One thing I did do when changing these cables was accidentally skip a battery and saw some serious sparks and it kind of burnt up one of the cables but not so bad that I thought I would need a new one. Does anyone know what my problem might be? Could that one cable be an issue? Maybe I fried something when I did that? Just weird that it drove for a minute and now it's dead. I appreciate any help. Thanks.
I attached pics of what I did as well. Thanks |

looks like the battery with B- label(closest to controller cover) is in backwards.

Yep, and if it's been that way for a long while, that battery will have reverse polarity (and really poor capacity).

That's why I love my 6 volt batteries. Pretty much idiot proof, And making my silver plated cables red/black (which I see ScottyB has now copied), makes my reading glasses unnecessary.

Please replace that rubber bungee cord with some correct battery hold down hardware.
If by accident you tump your cart over you will have 400 lbs of batteries on top of you to deal with and more than likely acid also. This is a safety issue and we all here want you to be safe with your cart! |

Ok thanks for all the responses!! I am not quite sure what you mean by it being in backwards. The one that has the B on the cable? How would turning the battery make a difference? Also I tested the voltage of the batteries and I posted a picture. Would the one that is low be a cause of the whole thing not starting? Thanks again all.

I think what they're saying is the battery closest to the controller appears to be in backwards in relation to the other batteries on that side. I can't see the post recognition marks in the picture but judging by the stickers it appears to be backwards. Is the wire with the B- marking on a negative post. Did you take these readings after the pack set for 12 hrs. or so. Most recommend this.

Re: 99EZGO TXT changed battery cables and won't run now
All of my batteries test at 6.4 after sitting for 12 to 24 hrs. 6.5 is probably ok. 6.0 is around 50%. 5.3 is a dead battery. I suspect all of these voltages will drop some as they sit. Looks like 3 of them may be toast. I'm definitely no expert so I'd wait for some of the pro's to chime in.

That is what everyone here is talking about. It looks like you have positive to positive or negative to negative on that battery to the battery directly below it. This is what it needs to look like: |

Re: 99EZGO TXT changed battery cables and won't run now
This battery needs to be rotated.
The circle shows a + mark barely and this needs to be - going to the B- cable. The 5.3v battery may be bad but fix this problem first and recharge. Then take the readings again after resting and see what you have. Get a hygrometer (float type-not balls) at auto parts store fairly cheap and test the individual cells of all batteries. It will show you real quick if you have a dead cell. This is not a load test but that can come later and may show an issue as well. Also get some battery CRC battery cleaner; it does wonders for cleaning and neutralizing acid and corrosion. Wash them down, spray, wait, wash and do again. When the red indicator is gone, your good! Your new cables look great! Use ARKSoft's diagram! |
