Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder
New poster here. I have a 2008 RXV with the Danaher controller and Iskra 48V AC motor. It is going into the crawl mode in forward and reverse like I have read here. I do not have access to a hand held programmer for the error codes, but by process of elimination, I suspect the problem is the encoder. I have seen several threads where the encoder was replaced and fixed the issue but I cannot find anything online about a procedure for how to replace it. I know I can buy the replacement kit but what are the steps to installing it? Thanks for any help.

Re: Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder
Did not get any responses so far, but I have removed the motor from the cart and removed the brake from the motor. The bearing is definitely bad as it makes noise just turning the motor shaft by hand. Now I just have to get the end cap off the motor to get to the bearing and I will probably try to tackle that tomorrow. If anyone has any tips from this point forward I would still appreciate it.

Re: Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder
Bearing replacement is simple and straightforward.
Keep everything clean. No metal shavings. Do not hit/ drop bearing. Should not need to press bearing. Pulls out with gentle pressure. Use care routing wires. They are delicate. |

Re: Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder
Thanks for the reply. I got it a little late since I had already replaced it but you were right, it was not that bad. Got the encoder replaced and put everything back together and the cart runs fine now. Hopefully that is the end of my problems for a while. I do still have the old style motor brake with the handle so I expect it to go out sometime. I was tempted to go ahead and replace it with the new style while I had it apart but those things are not that cheap and mine is still working right now.
I did learn a lot from this site from researching other threads and getting the troubleshooting guide so thanks to all of those that take the time to post here with their technical advice. |

Do I need to pull the motor to replace the bearing encoder?

Re: Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder
I was hoping that wasn't needed. How involved is pulling the motor?

Re: Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder
It's back-breaking heavy, and if there's a back seat kit installed (always is for me) then you might need to be as limber as a feline, but other than that, not hard. Just pay attention to the wires going to the controller, labeled V, W, and U. Never hook them to the wrong terminals on the controller during reinstallation.
