Default New Batteries Charging

I am finally charging my new Trojan T105s for the first time today and my question is simple. How high will the voltage on the batteries go while they are charging?

My SOC meter currently shows 43.3V and the charger is still putting out 14amps.

I know that I have read on other posts that the voltage is higher when first charging the batteries and that they settle down after 12 hours or so, but I am just not sure that the norm is.

Thanks
Rick

Rick, the voltage will get in the neighborhood of 46v before the charger will kick off.

Thanks,
I was starting to get concerned that I had wired something wrong and might blow up my shiny new batteries, controller, solenoid, etc.

49 volts on a 36 volt pack and new batteries would be more normal.

Thanks guys. It got up to 45.5 volts before I had to go out, so I do not know how high it actually got. It is a comfortable 38.4V now.

New question: Before I connect my new Yewy charger to my batteries for the first time, does it matter what position my run/tow switch is while charging?

No it doesn't matter on the run/tow when charging, but I would caution NOT to disconnect the charger before it completes it's cycle if you can help it. Especially on a new pack. The last part of the charge cycle tops off the batteries and balances them out.

Also, be sure to check out the sticky on breaking in new batteries to get the most out of them and increase longevity.
