Default 1998 TXT New Batteries, still slow. Where to start?

After melting down a battery and doing some research on battery age and maintenance, I installed six new 200 Ah 6 volts on Friday. I think they are sold under the name "precision" but are made by Crown. Anyway, everything went in pretty easily. All posts were cleaned and sealed with a product called "CAP". I got it from a friend who does large scale battery backup systems for a living.

Took it for a drive and everything seems fine. Saturday I went on a sporting clays outing and used one of the course's rental carts. It was a newer 48v TXT with standard wheels/tires and a rear seat. I am assuming it was bone stock, but it was leaps and bounds faster than my cart and had no issues whatsoever climbing hills even with three big guys, two cases of shells, and a midsize cooler. Does the extra 12v make that much difference or do I need to start going through my cart and testing everything? If the latter, where do I start?

My cart is lifted with 22x11x8.5 off road tires and has a rear seat. It is a series cart. Other than a voltage reducer for lighting it is bone stock. I would have assumed that given a specific motor speed, my cart should be faster than stock due to the larger tires. I could understand a need for more torque but would expect slightly higher speed.

I intend to do the controller (and cable and solenoid) upgrade in the future, but I am wondering if something is just plain worn out? I get acceleration through about the first 50-60% of the peddle range and then no difference for the remaining 40-50%. Even climbing hills it doesn't seem to matter if I am at 60% peddle or 100%. It's the same speed.

You didn't say how fast your cart goes but you are probably doing the best that that cart can do. Trying to compare your cart to a TXT48 is like comparing apples to oranges, the 12v does make a big difference and the motor and controller technology are completely different.

Well you didn't say....or maybe you don't actually know how fast your cart is, MPH wise. BUT the fact that you put 22" tires on an otherwise stock cart might have actually slowed it down, as it takes more torque to turn the larger/heavier tires.....and seeing as how the drive system is stock...you are not supplying it with any more "UMPH" (amperage). even if you upgrade the controller/solenoid....as your cart is a series, speed wise will only get a little over stock because of the tire height. if you want/need for a Series cart to go FASTER.....you will need to do a few things or a combination of things to do that. a new controller package.....and a jump to 48v, or a high speed more, or a gear change.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The TXT48 is a sepex drive with 48v system. The SEpex system produces more speed than series and new TXT48 longer motor produces plenty of torque... something the older PDS sepex models lacked. This TXT48 is the best offering from Ezgo in my opinion.

Also with the right controller and 48v your series cart could produce 33% more torque and speed than it does on 36v. Problem is people tend not to discover this until AFTER they buy 6/6v and are disappointed.

I'm getting +/- 12-13mph which is probably plenty fast, I was just really surprised how fast the 48v was compared to mine and was wondering if there was need for concern. For example, "oh, if it's only that fast your _____ is about to die".

As you mentioned, what I am really lacking is torque. That is what my build will be geared towards as budget allows.

Thanks, scottyb. I actually considered the 48v upgrade as you had suggested in a different thread but that would also have meant doing the controller, cables, solenoid, and a new charger right now which was not really an option. Okay, it might have been an option but sleeping on the cart would not have been real comfortable...;)

scottyb, when the time comes can you put together a package for me? speed is not of huge importance, and I don't really need to be able to adjust anything...probably safer if I can't. just more torque and longer run times. moderate hills, multiple people on trips back and forth to the pool and marina. +/- 3/4 mile each way.

I need to rebuild the front end as well but I'll start a new thread for that.

More power and longer range, not sure how that's supposed to work out. (I want my automobile to have more horsepower, and it must also get better MPG).
