Default DCS motor toast?

A buddy asked me to help him figure out why he no longer has forward on his 99 DCS. Reverse works fine, but in forward, motor made some humming noise. The bushings around the studs on motor had slightly melted. We pulled the motor. Smells very burnt. I do not understand how he still had reverse though. He does have an alltrax controller (not sure which amperage),22 inch tires. Would it be cheaper to have this motor rebuilt, or buy an aftermarket motor? Just looking for options. Thanks.

A rebuild by EMP is half the cost of a new motor.

I was thinking it may be cheaper to rebuild, verses buying new. Thanks Gorno. I will contact them.

t your studs on your motor go to your motor brushes and field coils sounds to me likethe bushings or insulators might have cracked allowing the stud to make contact with motor housing shorting out may have just burnt a lead off brush or field coil but you may have fnr switch issue or a micro switch that caused your no forward problem wont cost you anything to pull off the motor and take a peak your probably going to need to replace the bushings now that they are melted you might have to take rubber mallet and tap around the motor after you get the bolts and leads off to pop it off there some come off easy some need a little help hope this helps good luck
