Testing 12V Converter & Fuse Box?
Hey guys - Whats the easiest way to test a 12V converter and fuse box for proper operation? I have a multimeter and assume that I should test for voltage?
I am running an amp and lights from the converter, and nothing is coming on unless I run it straight to the battery, so I know that the accessories are operating correctly. Current hookup to the key switch: 'I' Terminal - White wire and Battery meter + 'B' Terminal - White/Yellow Wire and Battery Pack + 'L' Terminal - Switched + from 12V converter (Also tried B1 and nothing) Battery Meter - to the Battery Pack - Current hook up from the 12V Converter: 12V + (Green wire) to the fuse panel Red to the + on Battery pack Black to the - on Battery pack Neg Bus Panel hooked to - on Battery pack Accessories: Lights - Positive going to the fuse panel/Neg to Bus Amp - Positive going to fuse panel/Neg to Bus Checked all fuses and they are good to go. Just need to understand how to check the converter to make sure its working, provided that the rest of this looks right. Thought I had it licked yesterday, but not sure what the problem is. Not very well versed from an electrical standpoint, so any help would be appreciated. |

Put your meter on the 12v out of the converter, or a terminal in the fuse block, other end of meter to negative.

Cv, here's how I set mine, but I'm definitely no expert with one of these things. The dial is set to DC volts. If I understand correctly, you select the number (in my case 20) based on the range you're expecting. I just used this setting to check my 6v batteries individually, and the 12v out of my reducer.
It matters which sockets your probes are connected to as well. I'd imagine your knobs look similar. If not, I'm sure you can pull up the manual online. |

DC VOLTS ( something greater than 12v)......and you should be looking for 12v

Re: Testing 12V Converter & Fuse Box?
OK...so just turned my settings to DC voltage on 20. Touched the red probe to one of the fuse terminals and the negative to the negative bus bar. Probes are hooked up to the MM just like yours Orangeman. The reading I get is .01
Tested the green wire going to the fuse box and same thing. I guess that's bad? Any where else I should test? |

Sounds like your reducer isn't on.

Re: Testing 12V Converter & Fuse Box?
CV, I know I remember you having a thread about wiring this thing through your key switch. I didn't wire mine that way and I think some of the wire colors on my key switch are different. However, since you've figured that meter out, go back to your key switch and verify what you have, as far as what voltage is coming off of what pin when the switch is in certain positions. Per the diagram, that trigger wire goes on the pin hat has 36v coming out when the key is engaged. Figure that out and you'll have it.
Also, before you go tearing back into the switch, check if you have voltage to that trigger wire where it's connected to the reducer. I'm assuming you don't, and that the mistake was made at the switch, but maybe you've got a bad connection or made a bad crimp. Work from whichever direction is easiest for you to get to. Mine has an inline fuse at the reducer. Is that intact? |

The inline fuse at the reducer is intact, so no issues there. Getting pretty frustrated with it. Shouldn't be this difficult. I sent Scottyb a note. Hopefully he can assist. |

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...itch-wire.html If it's possible, I'd take the key switch out of the loop just to verify what I've got. You should be able to take the trigger wire straight to your pack + and get the reducer to come on. |
