Default Help in determining what type of system I have

This is my first post and I am very new to this. I just purchased a used/reconditioned 2004 EZGO TXT electric from an authorized EZGO dealer. This dealership purchases fleet golf carts and reconditions them. I believe this cart is a DCS. It is not a PDS, for sure. I have read some information on this site about "fleet" carts that apparently draw the power directly from the batteries and do not have a controller? How do I determine which type I have? Of course I can always call the dealer and ask them but thought I would ask here first. Ultimately I want to speed this cart up to 25 mph. The cart will be operated on extremely flat terrain between my home and the very flat golf course that I play. The golf cart is located in Texas and I am currently in Illinois until next fall. Thanks for any help you can give.

No such thing. You must have misunderstood.

If you have a F/R switch right beside your right leg you have a fleet series type cart. ALL cart will have a speed control of some kind.

The F/R lever is by my right leg. So I will assume that it is a DCS. I have read about different options for speeding a DCS cart up. It appears that you can change it electrically by changing controller, motor, wires and F/R switch. I have also seen discussions about changing gears to a 8:1 or 6:1 ratios. Which is the most effective and economical method to reach 25 mph. I realize that it won't be cheap either way.

OK, thanks. What is the best way to increase speed to 25 mph?

New motor, controller and upgrade to 48 volts. (Which includes a new charger, batteries and some other stuff.)

Good Luck!

What will gears do for speed? Can I increase speed that way?

You can but you will lose all low speed torque. There is no simple solution. Speed cost's money.

The area I live in is as flat as a pool table. I will be driving the cart from my home to a local golf course. The road is flat and the golf course is flat. I just need enough torque to get the cart moving. I've read that 6:1 gears will get you 25 mph with no other changes is that correct? If I choose the electrical option it appears that I will spend $1100 to $1200 just in parts, or a kit not including labor to install. Gears are around $300 to $450, depending on the site you choose to purchase from plus the labor to install. What is your experience concerning this?
