Default Txt slow uphills

I have a 1998 ezgo txt 36v. It runs just fine on flat ground but it's really slow uphills. Charged pack is at 37.6v but drops to 32.4v going up hill. Is this voltage in the right range? Should I be looking at something other than the batteries? Thanks in advance!

Fully charged pack voltage should be around 38.2 after batteries sit for 12 hrs. At 37.6 your pack is around 85%. Is the 37.6 reading right after the charger shuts off? How old are the batteries? Sounds like they may be getting toward the end of there life.

A drop equal to one battery in the pack signals an alarm for me. At that point do the same test for each individual battery and see if 1 or 2 are worse than the rest.

Re-checked the battery pack this evening after charging it last night. I had 38.56v on fresh charge. I was still dropping down to 32.4v up my drive way which is fairly steep. I checked each battery individually on a smaller hill, they all dropped pretty evenly down to 5.4v or so. I just bought the cart and was told the batteries are close to 1 year old. They are rural king batteries.

Check to see if there are any stamps or stickers on the batteries.

Check the date stamp on batteries. should be on top of the post. Should say something like C4. The letter indicates the month and number indicates the year. Also, check the water to see if the plates are covered. If not, add enough distilled water to cover and charge. once charged add water to cover plates about 1/4 in.

i have the same cart as you...i have deca/east penn batteries and mine read 39.4 after charge-38.3 after 24hrs...
going up a hill that my cart can go down at 40mph(it is steep!) i go up at 6mph-which is about right for a stock motor and controller...
series carts are the slowest going up hill-it is just the way a series cart is designed...
you can fix that by going with a torque motor, higher amp controller,2g cables,HD F/R switch(or HD contactor)-you pretty much have to upgrade the whole system to get a large performance increase....

Have you ever checked the pack to see how much voltage drop you have when going up hill? 5-6v on mine just seems like a lot! I haven't heard much good of the rural king batteries, but I hate to spend the money on a new pack if I need to upgrade the motor and controller.... I appreciate all of the feed back!

yep-watch my gauge all the time... on a fresh charge, instantaneous drop is 33.0 on the steepist part of the hill-on some run time it will drop to 32.7-4 depends how low the SOC is...

not really-you are seeing a false pack reading-if you let it sit for a few mins the pack will read much higher...i think what we are experiencing with the lower readings under load is the lack of amps being passed-thus the lower readings-but i am not an electrical guy
jonneib or scottyb or quite a few others on here can give a BETTER TECHNICAL REASON...

think of it as a water hose-the smaller the hose the smaller the stream...when we have a high demand situation with a low yield controller system-you get a limited result result-in upgrading a series system, all parts must be upgraded-but a series drive system is very reliable-thus worth the investment-IMO

you just cant cheap out on batteries-you get what you pay for...if you are going to upgrade you can add 2 more 6v batts in the bagwell and do the rest of the 48v upgrades-that seems the best way to save #$ with what you have...otherwise you have to buy 6-8v batts to get the 48v pack you will need,as you know already
