Default '13 EZ GO txt shudders at take off.

Hey gang, first time posting. I just bought a '13 EZ GO 48v txt. It seems there is a shudder when you first press the go peddle. It only does a quick shudder, not what I would call a violent shudder. It has 6 new 8v batteries but at this time I'm not sure what brand. It has either a 4 or 6 in lift with new 23 in tires. If you guys have any suggestions on where to start looking I would appreciate it. Thanks.. Phil

I would carefully inspect those batteries, visually (for date codes), and with a volt meter. I'm guessing since you just got the cart & don't know brand of batteries that you didn't do the battery job.

Yep I just bought it last week. The batteries have a 6/17 sticker on them so I know they didn't sit on the shelf long.

Haven't been very active on the site lately. I've checked all of the batteries and connections and everything is good there. I still have the stuttering issue when I take off or if you're trying to barely keep the cart moving. Anyone have any other thoughts on this problem??

You're probably not going to like the answer. The tires are your problem. The 23" tires are so large that it is affecting the motor current requirement, especially at lower speed, and the stock controller is just not up to the task that you are trying to demand of it. The map in the controller is for 18" tires, and E-Z-GO carts with Curtis controllers that use motor current mapping were designed for tires up to 20.5". The mapping is programmed in, and cannot be adjusted with the ease of an Alltrax controller. If it has the 1206HB-5201 controller, I could reprogram the map for you, which would reduce the shudder. But that controller would not really do you justice with those tires, and it will not last for long with that current load. I feel that to get the performance you want, you're going to need a 400 or 500 Amp Alltrax controller, where you can load a custom map to take your motor and tire size into account.

As long as your existing controller is still working, you can probably sell it to help cover the cost of the new controller.

So is it hard on the motor or the controller? And you think maybe the Alltrax xct 400 Amp controller would solve the stuttering problem? Thanks for the insight as this TXT 48v is actually the first cart for me. I do have a friend with basically the same cart and his doesn't do it.

It's harder on the motor, which makes it harder on the controller. The controller tries to deliver the required current, and for some reason it cannot. Either the batteries are sagging under load, or the controller is maxing out. You said you tested the batteries, so that only leaves what is left of the high current circuit.
