Default Battery over charging?

What should the voltage be on a 36v cart with new batteries when my charger shuts off ? It's showing 44.9 v on my meter and the charger is still on . Do I need to replace the charger?

It will charge up to 44v - 46v before your charger will shut off. 12 hours after it shut off voltage should be around 38.2v.
