Default 2012 vs 2014 RXV Differences

I've had a couple of 2012 and earlier RXV's that all had the motor whine noise to various degrees. I just picked up a couple of 2014 RXV's that are extremely quiet. I know these are the first Curtis controller carts I've had, so is that why they are quiet? Just curious.

It might just be that they are newer, but it is also possible that they are not using the Dana Spicer rear transaxle. E-Z-GO switched to another transaxle supplier, and it is not clear exactly when they started using the newer transaxles. There may have been a transition where both were used on the assembly line for a period of time. With AC drive, a controllers ability to accurately simulate the 3 phase sinewaves can affect the level of audible noise coming from the motor during operation. I don't know how much difference the Danaher controller is from the Curtis controller when it comes to the 3 phase sinewave accuracy. I don't have an operating Danaher controlled RXV to compare against a Curtis controlled RXV.

Thanks for the reply Bob. A dealer friend of mine got 12 of these 2014's in and they all were quiet. I've got a neighbor that bought a 2012 RXV a few months ago and it's the loudest one I've heard. After getting my 2014, he's wanting to know what he can change to make his quiet.

A few of the guys here have tried changing bearings and diff lube with no luck. At least 2 have replaced the rear transaxle with new from E-Z-GO and it quieted the noise. It's an expensive alternative to the noise, but some value their silence enough to spend the money. My RXV Shuttle 2+2 has a noisy transaxle, but I'm used to it. I don't drive it much right now, waiting for a new onboard charger to arrive. I've been using a pair of 12V chargers and swapping them back n forth to keep the batteries topped off until then.

I think what happened is that Dana sold their Dana 12 axle production to a place called Schaffer. It seems to be totally identical internally, except the pan now has a little flat spot inside for a magnet to go. All the old parts still fit.
