EZ-Go / Not so easy - Troubleshooting tips needed

Hello and thank you in advance for any help. The cart is new to me and I have never worked on them before but am pretty handy, have some common sense, and a little mechanical knowledge. The cart is a 2000 model EZ-Go (C300) and the person who owned it before me thought it just needed new batteries because they were completely dead. I charged them in pairs of 2 with a standard charger enough to get the charging system to work and then charged them overnight and am getting 36V on the bank (Actually 39?). When I press the accelerator pedal with the cart in forward the solonoid clicks and the cart makes a slight movement forward and then stops. I noticed that pressing the pedal ever so slightly it continues this slight movement forward but if I press the pedal any further then it stops and acts like it has a loss of power.

I tried some of the basic testing.. the Solonoid has the same voltage on the battery side and the motor side even before the switch is on or pedal pressed, not sure if that means something or not.

I could use some tips on what to test, in what order, and honestly what the test is telling me or eliminating from the problems list.

First, Welcome to BGW!

Did you check the water level in the batteries? Do you know how old they are?

Also, can you tell me if the cart is a series or PDS cart?

Battery levels are fill, 4 years old, and its PDS

A normal pack reading should be around 38.2 twelve hrs. after a complete charge. The readings right off the charger can be as high as 45 v., or 7.5 per battery. The batteries will settle for the next 12 to 24 hrs. This is where you will get a true reading of your pack. I would charge the pack again and take some readings. Give full pack and individual battery readings. The fact that the batteries were completely discharged is not good and they may not be salvageable.

Seeing as how you are getting the exact same voltage readout on both sides of the solenoid. That means the solenoid is bad.

Replace the solenoid.

Testing of the EZGO ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL - SERIES & PDS (NON DCS)
ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE BEFORE REMOVING CONTROLLER COVER. RE-CONNECT CABLE AFTER COVER IS REMOVED.
These test are to be conducted after making sure all wires and connections are clean and tight.
PLACE THE REAR OF THE CART SECURELY ON BLOCKS OR JACK STANDS FOR SAFETY
Connect (-) probe of meter on Battery Pack Negative (-) post. (This probe will on the post for the rest of the testing procedures) Connect (+) probe to the Battery Pack Positive (+) battery post. (This reading is the Battery Voltage and the amount of POWER TO THE CONTROLLER -
NOW, Key switch ON, gear selector in FORWARD, Place the (+) probe on the battery side of the solenoid's large post (If the reading is below battery voltage, check all wiring and terminals).
Place the (+) probe to the controller side of the solenoid's large post. The reading should be 0.1 to 3 volts less than battery voltage. If the reading is more than 3 volts less the battery voltage, the resistor is faulty. If the voltage is the same as the battery voltage, replace the solenoid.

Just replaced mine - same symptoms - new solenoid you can barely hear click - old one was quite loud... $30-$40 bucks and 10 mintues

Did you order online or pick up locally? I can hear mine click, not too loud though!

Ok.. I picked up the solonoid yesterday evening and put it on.. drumroll please!!!!!! IT WORKED, thank you all for your responses!

Now.. on to the next item on my list. Lights, and stereo!

Any Stereo recommendations? Probably only need a player to hook up iPod or iphone, would prefer Bluetooth I think.

Only recommendation is marine, that or do away with the radio all together, and get a blue tooth amplifier.
