Default 2008 EZgo txt Pds - tool fell and arced. Now won't run. Where to next?

Hi guys,

Bought 2008 EZGo txt 36vwith PDS that was used as a construction transport vehicle. In the process of removing some non-functioning horns, I had an ALLEN key fall and arc across the f2 and a2 terminals on the motor. Now he cart will not move. It worked fine before.

Is there a fuse I blew or have I fried something?

Those wires go straight to the controller.

Do you have a fuse on the battery pack that goes to the controller?

Update - actually now it's intermittent. I can turn it on, and the first time I hit the pedal it moves. Then it won't move again.

No. No fuse.

And by speed controller I assume you mean the box with the switch on it for towing.

Yes, the controller is under that cover with the tow ruin switch.

There are several diagnostics at the top of the EZGO section, it may not be a bad idea to go through some of them. However, with it being those two wires, it may have fried the controller.

What do those two wires do? I am assuming one is the main 36V supply from the batteries to the motor, but the other I am assuming goes to the control box or to a pedal.

- Edit -
After looking at a better diagram, looks like the motor terminal A2 is connected to B+, which I am assuming is the 36V battery positive.

What exactly are F1 and F2 doing? I can tell that they control speed, but on the diagram it looks like they are one side of a transformer coil. I am used to industrial electric AC motor controls, not DC.

Also - when it was intermittent (can't get it to do it again) I'd hear the solenoid click. Every time the solenoid clicked, the motor would move. Provided the motor is functional, how can I check to see if solenoid coil is fried? I'm going to have some time this evening to look at this.

Thanks for all the help. Seems like a great community here.

The solenoid is most likely okay. The controller is most likely bad.

You have a SepEX (Separately Excited) motor and a matching controller.

The Armature is between the motor's A1 & A2 studs and is a high power circuit. (0A to 300A with a stock PDS controller)
The field windings are between the F1 & F2 studs and are a low power circuit. (0A to 30A)
When the Allen wrench shorted A2 to F2, the charge stored on the filter capacitors across the MOSFETs in the Armature portion of the controller discharged through the MOSFETs in the Field portions of the controller.

Replace the stock PDS controller with an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS (or larger) aftermarket controller (and matching solenoid) and you'll have a cart that will do about 24MPH on stock height (18" tall) tires with a 36V battery pack.

That's great info. I've got a new controller on order. Seriously, thanks again.
