79 Ezgo resistor cart 36v to 48v
Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and I'm sure this question has been asked many times. I've searched and can't come up with a definitive answer. Can a 79 Ezgo resistor cart be converted from 36v to 48v. I don't really wanna have to add an electronic controller as they are not cheap! All the components to the speed control system in this cart are a lot beefier than they are in my 2000 48v Club Car. I would think they can handle the extra load. My only concern is the resistor coils. Currently building 4ga. cables and rebuilding anything that looks iffy. It ran good as a 36v but I've lifted it and would like to get a little more speed to cruise around the neighborhood! Thanks in advance for any advice! By the way my carts name is Mater!

Re: 79 Ezgo resistor cart 36v to 48v
yea they were built for 36 volts when you bump it to 42~48v it will burn up stuff , how ever it looks
the motor can handle the extra volts but solenoid and resistor coils wont, f/r switch is also not heavy duty enough only way is a complete rebuild of electronics .......... Welcome to BGW |

Resistor coils waste battery power any time your cart is running at a speed less than wide open throttle. What you are asking for is help to waste even more power because you'll have more power to waste. You'll spend more upgrading the resistor coils, contact board, contacts, solenoids, ect, than a new Alltrax controller from Scottyb will cost you. You can modify your existing contact board to switch resistor values to simulate the stepped speed control action of the old system while still using an electronic speed control if you're just trying to make it seem authentic. Re: 79 Ezgo resistor cart 36v to 48v
For the sake of me being a hardhead Say I wanted to try to make some heavier coils. What material would I use? I know it's stupid and pointless but I do love a challenge! Plus the cart ( if I use it ) will almost always be at WOT. As far as the F&R switch I'll use it till it burns up and get a beefier one. I already have two 48v solenoids on the shelf. (Cart only has one)

Re: 79 Ezgo resistor cart 36v to 48v
I have 2 of those carts, a 1973 and a 1985. I pulled the motor from the 1985 and sent it to another member here that needed one. Both had been running until some druggies stole the batteries and wiring to sell for scrap.
If you take your time and look around, you can find some deals on newer carts. No need to waste money on an old resistor cart unless you really like old carts. It's not like cars where antique means something. The only reason I bought the 2 I have was they were in driving condition and only $75 each. Not worth replacing the batteries at this point. I bought the remains of a 2008 RXV Shuttle 2+2 flood cart for $500. I brought it back from the dead by using parts from my totalled 2012 RXV. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ther-cart.html I bought a 2009 RXV chassis for $250. Building a road car from that chassis. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/road-...-road-car.html So you may want to keep your eyes open for another cart. Bob |

Re: 79 Ezgo resistor cart 36v to 48v
I really do like this old cart. I've went through the trouble of fixing it up to look like Mater, new wheels and tires, lift, and built a new battery rack for it. I will eventually upgrade to a controller but don't have the funds at the moment. I already have a set of 48v batteries I scored for $100 from my buddy. He crashed his club car took the batteries out (only six months old) and junked the cart! Wish he would have told me before he scrapped it! I coułd have made a Franken Cart! Maybe I'll run across a junker for cheap I can get the electronics out of. (One that just needs batteries and they don't know it! Lol!) Heres a pic of ol Mater!
