Power Wise QE Not Shutting Off?
I have a 2013 RXV with 4 12 Crown batteries. Realizing that I'm nearing the end of life of these batts I was not so concerned about the high amount of water usage until lately. Seems that post charge (solid green on charger and on the cart indicator) the batteries continued to gas and bubble. Even 12 hours after charge completion I hear some bubbling from the batts. So, I am wondering if the charger is continuing to apply charge voltage even though the indicators show charge complete? Anyone run into this? I understand the QE is junk and I will replace with a DPI when I change batts but it seems I'm boiling off water far in excess than normal. The batts are consuming a LOT of water.

Re: Power Wise QE Not Shutting Off?
Well, check the pack voltage a good while after the charger shuts off. Is it higher than 52v?

Re: Power Wise QE Not Shutting Off?
Will do, thank you. Wondering if anyone has run into this charger not shutting off but exhibiting solid green lights before.

Re: Power Wise QE Not Shutting Off?
Pack voltage is 50.3 12 hours post charge with the charger still plugged in. Normal?

Woops, batts are US. Battery, not Crown.

Re: Power Wise QE Not Shutting Off?
For US Battery, it ought to be 51.3V 12hrs after charging. (See attached SoC chart from US Battery)
Your batteries are only about 84% SoC. |

Quote:
Does the cart still have acceptable performance and range. If so, being over 4.5 years old and using a lot of water, they are near the end of their useful life. If the range and performance isn't acceptable to you, than they are at the end of their useful life. Only charging to 84% Soc may be a charger issue, or at least partially so. If the QE was set up to charge Trojan batteries, it has been undercharging your US Battery batteries. If you get the DPI Accusense right away and do some back-to-back charges (aka equalization charges), they might start accepting a higher SoC and have a few more months useful life. With little exception, my Exide batteries have been connected to a DPI Accusense charger whenever my cart is not in use. They are dated Oct 2012, so they just turned 5 Years old and will still charge to 100% SoC and the cart still has nearly as much range and performance it did when they were first installed. However, they are starting to use more water, so I'll most likely have to replace them in the next couple of years. |
