Solenoid??
I did my due diligence to search this answer and I am sure that this answer is here but I could not find it to my satisfaction. Here is my issue.
I have a 96 36 volt. The batteries are pretty good. I checked and replaced a couple of wires with bad connectors and did a good cleaning. Did a full charge and checked each batteries voltage and all is good. Now the problem... Once the pedal is engaged, the solenoid clicks and then nothing. How can I know for sure if it is a bad solenoid or if it is in the controller. What is the best way to diagnosis? Thanks so much. |

Re: Solenoid??
Clip your meter leads to the two large terminals on the solenoid. Set meter to a setting close to 200v DC, so you can read 36v. When the solenoid clicks, the voltage reading should drop to zero, indicating the difference from one side to the other is zero. That would be a good reading for a good solenoid.

Re: Solenoid??
There are 2 diodes on my solenoid. Could one of the diodes be bad?

Re: Solenoid??
If it's clicking, the diode is not shorted. The one on big terminals is a precharge resistor, which keeps the capacitors in the controller nearly full, to reduce wear on the solenoid contacts. The cart should still work with both of those parts absent, so they are likely not your problem.
