Default How to open RXV controller 1206AC

Has anyone attempted to open the Curtis 1206AC controller used in the EzGo RXV carts. I would like to learn to repair them but can't figure out how to remove the plastic cover. Removing the four screws in the corners of the cover does not release it from the heat sink.

Yes I have. Many of the issues I have found with Curtis 1206AC-XXXX RXV controllers were not hardware related, they turned out to be memory corruption related, caused by battery voltage disruption or glitches. Everyone is supposed to put the run/tow switch into tow mode prior to disconnecting or reconnecting any power leads that are connected to the controller. Controllers are very easy to glitch the memory on. In order to repair these controllers, you have to have a high level Factory or Developer programming station and clean copies of the OS (Operating System) and VCL (Vehicle Control Language) files for the controller that you intend to reflash back to a factory new status. Once reflashed, then you run full diagnostics to be sure that there are no hardware issues. Out of all of the controllers that I have reflashed, I only had one with a hardware problem... A bad FET for the motor brake output. I replaced the FET and put the controller back in service.

In answer to your question, the cover is glued on with a weatherseal compound. It requires a curved blade that is used to cut the weatherseal, then repouring of that weatherseal when re-assembling.

Thanks, Bob, for the very detailed and helpful reply. Unfortunately I am not properly equipped to attempt software repairs but it is good to know that most failures are not hardware related. Thanks again for your reply. Chuck.

Also, Bob, I assume the weatherseal you refer to is the soft material surrounding the electrical bolt connections not at the seam between the cover and the heatsink. Is that correct?
