Default Amp Gauge showing wrong info?

Hello all, I am new to the site and have used the search function but have not come up with this exact problem.

So I was putting in a cell phone mount. Its a magnetic type (very strong mag.) I was testing locations and got it very near the batt. gauge. The gauge went all over the place and I quickly moved it away...I am guessing there is magnets in the gauge. My QuiQ batt. Charger went thru its regular operations and told me it was full charge. This is on a 13 RXV EZGO. The batteries are from 15 and have always shown full on the gauge. Now I am not getting that reading its starting at 3/4 full on the gauge and seems to draw down quicker. Anyone ever come across this or can maybe shed some light on the how the gauge works.

Well I’m sure the magnet did nothing to your batteries but it may have permanently messed with the meter. You might have to get another one unless after a while it suddenly reads correctly. Double check that your batteries are actually ok still too. They are from 2015 but doesn’t mean one or more wont start going out.

Like an electric motor, analog meters use the magnetic reaction of a coil of wire and a magnet to deflect. Those magnets are very weak, and are damaged by the strong magnetic field of rare earth magnets. You will need to replace the meter because it has permanently lost its calibration.
