Default EZGO TXT wires to motor cut and burned..question about possible damage

I recently bought a 2003 or 2004 EZGO TXT knowing little to nothing about golf carts. While letting by daughter ride it she called me and told me that it "just stopped". She described smelling a burning smell for short time once it wouldn't move and hearing something like a stick was under or something dragging. (never found a stick or anything dragging) After looking everything over I finally found that the wires that go to the motor were pinching where they were pulled tight around a metal corner piece. I am assuming they had been rubbing that corner piece and eventually wore them through which caused the wires to come into contact with each other. At least two of the wires are completely burned through and the others have wire but obviously worn. My question is, can I just replace those wires myself or is it likely that that short would have caused significant damage either to the motor or back to the controller? Golf cart does not move at all, batteries are good and solenoid is good. Thanks for any help.

I had the very same thing occur on my txt about 5 years ago. I replaced the wires.....being very careful to use plastic zip ties to keep the new wires away from that corner. It's going to be tough to tell if you damaged your controller until you replace the wires.....unless when you NOW press the peddle (with the wires to the motor not hooked up) and you get no green light blinks on your controller.....if your controller has an indicator light.

I am not seeing an indicator light unfortunately. Is there somewhere I can just buy those four wires? All I see is kits with all the battery cables and I just had them replaced 2 months ago. Hoping it will be a little cheaper to buy just the 4 I need. I guess I can start there and if it does not work I will probably have to take it somewhere. Thanks

You won't know if the controller is damaged until you replace the damaged cables. Hopefully not, but if it has it would be a good time to upgrade the controller.
