Default New Cart = questions...

Ok, just picked up a 2006 EZGO TXT PDS 36v cart. It is lifted on 22 inch tires. It appears to have a stock controller with a red "Speed" plug/chip.

It seems to run and ride just fine however my neighborhood is very hilly and I am concerned as to whether the stock controller will suffice and if it should have the 'speed' chip rather than no chip or a 'hill' chip.

I have done a bit of reading on the chips and the opinions are a bit varied.

Also, anyway to tell a stock controller from an aftermarket visually? Without taking it out, I do not see any distinguishing marks. It looks like a stock black controller.

Thanks in advance for any and all input!!

I have attached a picture for you to see what I am working with.

Well the stock controllers are black and small square shaped. They are Curtis controllers. As to how well it can climb hills, not sure because I live in flat lands lol

But basically if it’s a small black square controller with a plastic case it’s stock. They also have two holes on a backplate that extends up so it lines up with the holes for mounting (and it also fits perfectly between the solenoid mounting bracket)

If you don’t take it out but read the sticker that says Curtis on it, it’s not aftermarket. Does the controller have a white Curtis sticker on the top?

If you are in a hilly area it will work for a while but will give up eventually because it just isn’t made for that. Alltrax or Curtis 400-500 amp controller with a 4-2 gauge wire update and solenoid and you will be good to go. A good sponsor here is David from Revolution. http://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/store

As far as the plugs go, they limit top speed, and control how much Regen braking is used when the throttle isn't pressed. NONE OF THE "PERSONALITY PLUGS" (aka "speed chip") affect torque at all, and will not help you climb a hill.

It does not have a Curtis sticker on the top.

I just want to be sure the 'speed' chip is not affecting/reducing the amount of torque from the controller especially since I have oversized tires.

Agree the personality chip just gives you more speed. To get more torque you may need upgraded motor and gears.
