Default Marathons Runs Without Key

Hello,

I have a 92 Ez-Go Marathon 36 Volt.

I replaced the solenoid a couple of weeks ago and discovered I can now drive the cart without the key in the ignition or the ignition turned to the "on" position. I simply do not need the key or the ignition switch, all I have to do is depress the gas pedal and the cart will go forward or backward just as if the key was in the ignition. However you must depress the gas to make the cart move, it doesn't just constantly run.

I have disconnected the wires from the back of the ignition switch and it still does this with the wires disconnected.

When I replaced the solenoid I reconnected everything as it was. Even took a picture before working on it to make sure I rewired it correctly.

Anyone have any idea whats up?

Will it damage my cart?

Going camping in a couple of weeks and want it running properly.

Another problem I have is that once I depress the gas pedal about 20% the cart stops getting juice. If I back off on the pedal it's fine but I only have about 20% of the pedal to work with and kind of have to walk a fine line between running and not running. There was an old thread started by someone with a similar issue but no solution was found for that person. I was directed to someone with an online store for advice but he didn't seem to know either, mentioned potentiometer which I was working on when I discovered the ignition issue.

Neither of these issues are Earth shatteringly important, and the cart works. Just looking for possible answers.

Thanks,
Jim
