Powerwise charger; does it maintain batteries
I have a powerwise charger with my 97 goftcart. I found the manual here on this site http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...ger-manual.pdf
But I can’t tell if this will maintain my batteries. Sometimes I have to leave the cart unattended for a few months (I know this this very bad, but I can’t change it). So my question is, once the powerwise charges the batteries, if it's not unplugged from the batteries or the AC, will it charge them again when needed? I’ve noticed that after charging my batteries, I can unplug the AC and plug it back in but it won’t restart charging. Will it start later when the batteries drain down a little? Thanks. |

Re: Powerwise charger; does it maintain batteries
NO, the Powerwise chargers do NOT have a maintainer function. the only way to restart a charge cycle is to UNPLUG the charger from the charge receptacle on the cart and plugging it back in. unplugging the charger from the wall won't do it.
to have a charger that will do what you are wanting, you will need to buy a new charger such as the DPI chargers that scotty sells at cartsunlimited.net |

Re: Powerwise charger; does it maintain batteries
Ok, thanks. That’s what I thought, but wasn’t sure. I have three carts with this scenario
For anyone interested, my work around is: I mounted the charger under the seat, along with a 30 foot retractable plug reel. Had to put a plug on it instead of a receptacle. The ac plug powers a jct box under the seat, which, along with powering the charger, has a 30 amp relay in it. The relay has a 120Vac coil, but switches the 36 VDC going from the charger to the batteries. So when I unplug my retractable cord, it also disconnects the charger from the battery. Then when I’m away for a few months, I plug the cart into an AC wall timer that momentarily switches off every three weeks, so the charger will top off the batteries. I check that the water is full before leaving for the season. |
