Default Brake light question

My western golf cart has brake lights. Its an ego txt cart with their body on it. I know that when both are brake lights stuck on or having issues it usually is the timer. However it seems that when you turn the head lights and tail lights on, one side is brighter than the other. When you step on the brakes only the other less bright side lights up as bright as the stuck on side.

What would cause one one out of the two tail lights to act stuck on when you turn the lights on?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If it's incandescent bulbs, a bad or wrong bulb could cause that.

No timer was used. Incorrect wiring at the tail light is the common cause of what you describe.

Or bad grounds will cause it.

If you have a two element bulb (like an 1156 or 1157 bulb) they are meant to go in one-way. I've seen people put them in backwards before so it causes the tail light to be as bright as a brake light. Then when the brake is pressed the light difference is so minimal you can't tell. Unless I read your post wrong, that sounds like the same symptoms.

You can see the two tabs on the sides of this bulb. You can push it and make it go in backwards.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I am going to switch it around when I get home. I actually did just replace both 1157 bulbs just because they were old and it may have started once I did that. I haven't changed any wiring at all, its all factory done. I will change it around and report back. Thanks everyone

gcm what I meant by bad grounds is it is possible if the bulb has a bad ground it can feed back through the other filament on a 1157 bulb and ground that way. My niece's jeep would to that. Brake lights would work until you turned on the headlights then they would go out. Turned out it was losing its ground at the rear tail light socket. It had melted in the housing. New sockets fixed it.
