Noise from rear of cart
1999 TXT Series cart, There is a loud whine when accelerating the cart. When you let of the gas the noise is gone. I have a Plum Quick upgrade motor and new axle bearings. When I installed the new motor I replaced the input shaft but can not remember if I replaced the bearing? How should I go about diagnosing this noise? THANKS

Re: Noise from rear of cart
When you have noise in the rearend, but only when there is a load on it.....typically it has to be one of two things, either a bearing OR the gears. do the easiest things first! first thing I would do would be to put the cart up in jack stands and drop the pan on the rearend. when you drain it, catch the old oil in something clean so you can inspect it thoroughly. use a good light and inspect the gears themselves looking for chipped or broken teeth, or even worn teeth. if all it good and clean, put in new oil and go the to the next thing, which are bearings. which will require taking things apart. one and a time.

Re: Noise from rear of cart
If you pull the motor and spin it with your hand can you tell the bearing in the motor is bad?

Re: Noise from rear of cart
if you pull the motor.....you won't be able to "spin" it....as the motor is only supported on one end after you remove it, the coupling end is supported by the bearings of the gear set.

Re: Noise from rear of cart
If you can get a video with good sound post it here. I just had a problem with motor noise and it ended up being a bearing in the motor. I figured that out after tearing the whole rear end apart. I can at least tell you if it's a similar noise as mine.

Re: Noise from rear of cart
another way to eliminate the motor.....you have a PQ motor in the cart....if by chance you have the original motor (that's still good) or have access to a known good motor. Swap it out and see if the noise goes away, or is still there. STILL THERE....motor isn't the problem. and a motor swap is easy....4 nuts, 4 cables....done.

Re: Noise from rear of cart
I have access to a set of electric ears so I am going to jack the cart up and start at the back of the motor and the move the ears around and try to pin point the noise. After deer season. Some things are more important

Re: Noise from rear of cart
I have removed the rear end cover and inspected all gears, All looks good. I have removed the left rear hub and the inside of the splines are worn down. I am going to replace the hub but do not think that is the noise?I removed the axle and the bearing is good. The input shaft and bearings look good. Would you suggest removing the other axle and checking the bearings in the rear end.
PLEASE THANKS |
