Re: Um...that’s not good
Dangit...well if its a goner and nothing left to lose...what about drilling a hole right beside the busted tab and put a screw in there right against the side of the tab inside which could also be used to hold down an eyelet connector right on top of the broken tab. Both the screw and the connector would make contact (assuming the top of the broken tab is somewhat proud) Then run a wire off the eyelet connector...Thats all I got...

Re: Um...that’s not good
if paperweight is the other option, why not open up the controller and see if it's feasible to replace that portion from the inside.

Re: Um...that’s not good
If it's a choice of tossing it or fixing it, I would grind back the plastic a bit and solder a stranded wire pigtail to the broken tab, and crimp a new male tab on the end of the pigtail. Then cover the connection and the first 1/4" or so of the wire with silicone sealer to create somewhat of a strain releif and weatherseal. It's not like it has to carry a huge amount of current.

Re: Um...that’s not good
Grind back the plastic all around it ans Bob said. Then heat a 1/4 spade connector and push it on a bit. Allowing to melt it's way in a bit deeper. Should give you a decent connection

Re: Um...that’s not good
Roger all that.
It's the original 400 amp Curtis controller on a 1996 EZGO XT500 (marathon) that I know for sure works. I've got a backup Curtis installed in the cart now waiting on the Bandit to show up any minute now If the backup is dust I'll definitely try the backyard trim/heat/solder trifecta before ordering a new Alltrax (the right thing to do...). Thanks for the discussion. |
