12 volt ground for lights
Ihave a 97 ezgo txt series cart. I am running the headlights off of 2 of the batteries. I realize this isnt ideal but I dont have a voltage reducer right now. I am hooking up a set of head lights(for hunting). The rear ones ground through the housings. Can I connect the frame to the negative side of the battery I am using for a ground for my regular headlights to ground the frame or would this be bad for the running of the cart? I do use it to hunt so the frame does get wet if it matters.

Re: 12 volt ground for lights
The only way lights work EVERYTIME on a sparky cart is if each light has 2 wires and ALL the lights connect to the same negative 12v battery post. Any other way, and your results will vary, and we will never have the right answer for your particular cart. I cannot explain why sparkies act differently amongst themselves in this regard, I just know what I have experienced, seen, or read on these forums.

Re: 12 volt ground for lights
So even if I run a seperate wire to ground it all the way to the lights, I will still need to insulate the housings from the framewhere I am mounting them right?

Re: 12 volt ground for lights
That has not been the case in my experience, but some guys have had to resort to this tactic. I don't know if it is real issue, or if their wiring was suspect in another area. My headlights have 2 wires, metal housings, and bolt directly to the factory light bar supports which are chassis grounds.
