Default PDS - 42V upgrade or Admiral B2?

I am really close to pulling the trigger on the 42v upgrade for my PDS. I am wondering if I should go with the motor upgrade first. I plan to eventually go to 48v but I’m limited to about $500 right now to spend on it. Knowing that, I am considering getting the B2 motor now then go 48v when my T-105’s give out. Either way I’m going to spend $500 what do you think would be the better option? What kind of performance will I get from the B2 on 36v? Better than what I have now with the stock motor?

The stock Pds motor doesn't live a long happy life on 48v, 42v is the "sweet spot" for a stock PDS motor. Hope this helps. Since a 36v charger can't charge 42v stuff, or 48v stuff, I think i might wait until you are truly ready to go full-bore 48v. I only know of one charger that can do 42v now, and 48v later, with the same charger. That is a DeltaQ QuiQ charger (it's pricey). Either way, you will have to buy a new charger, so might be best to wait until you are ready to go full 48v. Considering a charger upgrade will be required during the upgrade, not sure how $500 will do the job.

Thanks CG. The ultimate goal for me is 48V with a B2 but I can't do it all at once. The B2 is is about the same price as a DPI 42V and a T-105 ($500). My gut tells me to get the B2 and skip 42V all together and just run 36V for now. How do you think the B2 would do on 36V vs. the stock motor? More torque and less speed?

The B2 is going to draw more amps than the stock motor, at 36v this is going to cause more heat through out the system and reduce run time.

More voltage really is critical to improved performance in any of the 36v carts.
Case in point - they do not make 36v carts anymore.

Good point - I wish I would have known all of this before buying brand new batteries LOL.
Humor me - How much less run time are we talking? It's flat here and we never ride more than 2-3 miles at a time.

I see the B2 is 8HP. That's 4x the HP of my stock motor.

I upgraded to 42V after adding an Alltrax controller, HD solenoid, and 2G cables.
I recouped a good chunk of money by selling my stock controller. Solenoid and 36V charger to offset the costs.
It runs really well and keeps up with a 2017 48V EZGO except on steep hills.
Ill be adding a B2 soon to take care of that problem👍

Jmzvet thanks. That may be the route I take. I have the same setup as you. Wish I could do it all at once but I can’t. So you’re happy with the 42v on stock motor ?

The stock motor improves significantly on 42v. The B2 also does well on 42v.
If you wish to upgrade after putting new 6v batteries in you are not alone. Many people are disappointed after new 6v batteries do not give the cart the desired boost they envisioned. Adding a 7th 6v under the driver seat and adding the XCT400 control, 200 SW180 solenoid, and 42v DPI is a good solution. You will see a 17% increase in both torque and speed from the stock motor.

Yes. It does very well on flat ground. About 25mph with 19in tires. I live in a very hilly neighborhood and can only go about 10mph on the steepest roads. Im hoping the B2 can help.

I’m thinking 42V is my best option. Thanks Scottyb. I can always add the motor later if/when I fry the stock one.
