Default EZ go total charge i quit charging

I have a 36 volt Textron total charge that quit charging. It was running last time I started the charge about 2 weeks ago, but when I returned to check it the timer did not move. I took the cart our for 9 holes and then went to charge with nothing working on the charger. It will click when plugging it into the cart but no amps or humming. I checked voltage at the timer and getting 3 volts as well as at the control board but have the full 36 volt on control board from the battery pack. I bypassed the control board with no change and thought I had the timer bypassed too, but no change and not sure if I did the timer bypassed correct or not. I am just trying to figure out if it's the timer or if it is the transformer and if I should be ordering a new charger. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Default EZ go total charge i quit charging

Did you check leed wire in the charging port? Sometimes it goes out and just needs to be bypassed.

(Based on other things I read when researching similar issues)

Forgive me, but I am new to all the electrical terminology, but what lead wire and where is the charging port? Where the 120v comes in?

The charging port is the place on the golf cart that the charger plugs into. In addition to connecting the charger's DC output to the cart's battery pack, there may be circuitry that turns on charger and circuitry that disables cart when the charger output cable is plugged int charging port. You are hearing a click inside charger when you plug it into the cart and the cart runs, so your cart's charging port and associated circuitry appear to be okay.

You don't hear the transformer hum when charger is plugged into cart and power cord is plugged into 120VAC outlet and timer is set to Start. Plus, timer knob did not move.

That tells me: The AC input fuse is blown, OR the charger is plugged into a dead AC outlet, OR the power cord is bad, OR the timer is bad.

You say the timer has been bypassed, so that narrows it to the fuse, or the power cord or the AC outlet, unless timers bypass isn't correct. Please post picture of timer showing how it is bypassed.

I am pretty sure I did not get it bypassed and am away from the cart right now, but testing volts with it in off there is the 3 volts where the yellow with is and none where the black transformer wire plugs to and when the timer is on there is no voltage. But if you could tell me how to bypass I will try it again. Thanks for all the help.
PS. I know the wall outlet works and I have 120v before the fuse. If the fuse was blown tho wouldn't there no be any volts on the other side?

The timer does not appear to be bypassed, but there ought to be 120VAC on the yellow wire.

There also ought to be 120VAC on both ends of the fuse. If it was bad, you'd only get 120VAC on the power cord end. (End closest to front panel of charger)

Attached is how too bypass timer. Move the yellow wire down to the group of push-on terminals that has a black wire to the transformer and a black wire to the timer motor.

For all AC voltage measurements, place the black test lead on the group of push-on terminals on the bottom left of the timer assemble. The group with the white wire from the power cord connected to it.

For all DC voltage measurements inside the charger, connect black test lead to either in the terminals on the Ammeter.

-----------
If you have 120VAC on the yellow wire when charger is plugged into cart and plugged int AC outlet, the fuse and the relay contacts on the control board are good. If you still get 3V, check to see if you have 120VAC on both ends of the fuse.

FYI, I typed it wrong earlier. Check the port on the cart for a “reed” wire. Should run from the port to the forward reverse switch (EZGO TXT based knowledge)

I bypassed mine altogether since I converted to lithium now but remember having issues during the swap.

The reed switch is supposed to prevent cart from being driven away while charge is attached, but does not effect the actual battery charging process. It connects to the Positive terminal. Reed switch is a high failure item and was discontinued by EZGO and is often bypassed by cart owners.

The item that effects the battery charger is the Auxiliary contact in the charge plug and connects to the Negative terminal. Not all chargers incorporate the Auxiliary contact in their operation and the Total Charge charger being discussed in this thread is one of those that does not need it for operation.

I don't even want to tell you but it was the fuse itself that wasn't working. I was checking the charge wrong the whole time. Thanks for the help. Was wondering tho it had a 15 amp fuse would it be ok to put a 20 amp fuse in it?
