That might not be the problem. Try running the radio on a 12 volt battery with temporary connections to see if reducer may be causing problem.

Try temporarily powering the radio from a different source than the DC converter.

I will try it on a different power source this weekend. Thanks for everyone’s thoughts.

When we install a radio at our shop we have to purchase powered antennas to pick up stations. Reason being is stock antennas for 12 volt systems ground through frame of car and on golf carts they do not as you Never ground anything through frame of electric cart. Just a thought and why we don't pick up anything with regular antennas here. ;)

The vertical antennas typically seen on metal body cars are only half of the antenna, the other half (counterpoise) is the car's metal body. Without a counterpoise, a vertical monopole antenna won't pick up much of anything.

Corvettes and other fiberglass cars or boats and plastic bodied golf carts need an antenna that includes both elements.

Try a marine antenna designed for fiberglass boats.

Half wavelength antennae to not require a counterpoise (ground), so they use a half wavelength antenna for mounting on ungrounded or non-metallic surfaces.

Thanks, I should have mentioned that.

It appears that the advertising description of the antenna needed for a golf cart should be along the following lines: Dipole AM/FM radio antenna.

This is just an example, there are dozens of choices: https://www.amazon.com/Herdio-Waterp...marine+antenna

It is the type antenna needed for a golf cart, but I'm not 100% sure the radio is working.

You said you got static on FM and an FM receiver without a good antenna tends to be relatively static free. Of course, if the volume is turned way up, there will be noise from the audio circuits.

When the radio is powered by7 battery rather than DC voltage reducer, adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level with a Bluetooth, CD or other Aux input. The try to find something on the AM band, then the FM band.

AM will be noisy and FM should be fairly quiet.

-----------
Also, the rubber ducky antenna linked to is only about $10, so it is an inexpensive WAG.

Without a antenna plugged in its quiet plug antenna in static. I hooked another radio up and the other one off the batteries and not through the reducer and I’m getting the same results. Both radios are brand new.
