93 EZGO marathon slow going
I'm sure this was addressed before but I can't seem to come to a conclusion. My EZGO marathon 36v runs really slow. I am going to clean up the batteries and the terminal first but I suspect from reading other posts maybe a better 400 or 500 amp controller. But also mentioned In the post was a HD solenoid and F&R unit. I believe I know what the controller looks like but what is a F&R unit? Is a new solenoid really needed? I guess last option would be to add a couple batteries and change out some components to go 48v.

Re: 93 EZGO marathon slow going
what is a F&R unit?
It is the forward/reverse switch, if you are going to upgrade you should get one from here. Scotty can set you up with everything you need and everything you didn't even know you needed! http://www.cartsunlimited.net/f---r--switches.html |

Re: 93 EZGO marathon slow going
One additional question. If I do the upgrade of the controller, I would have to upgrade we deal other components, therefore I may as well add voltage to the cart too. So if go from the 36v to 48v will that mean a new charger also? Or can I continue to use the current charger?

Re: 93 EZGO marathon slow going
The motor draws amperage from the battery pack to propel the golf cart. The speed controller regulates how much amperage the motor can draw. You control how much amperage the controller allows to pass with the gas pedal position signal.
All of the amperage flowing from the batteries to the motor goes through all of the cables and every component in the drive system. The basic components of the drive system are the speed controller, the solenoid, the cable set, and the directional selection switch a.k.a. F&R. All of these components must be sized correctly for the anticipated amperage flow to avoid failure. So, a bigger speed control requires a bigger solenoid etc. A series motor requires full access to the battery pack for its best performance. A 500 amp speed controller is recommended. The solenoid is the on/off switch for the battery power supply to the controller. A 400 amp solenoid is required for a 500a controller. Additionally a heavy-duty F&R is needed to handle the additional amperage flow as well as larger cables throughout. 48 V operation will induce the motor to produce 33% more speed and torque then 36 full operation. A 48 v battery pack will require a 48v battery charger. I hope this helps For more information on how to upgrade your golf cart's drive system go here http://www.cartsunlimited.net/upgrade-suggestions.html |
